Volvo S90 to be launched in India tomorrow

The Volvo S90 will be launched for the Indian market tomorrow. It will be the new flagship vehicle from the Scandinavian automaker, replacing the S80, and it will compete with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5 Series, Jaguar XF and the Audi A6.

The S90 sedan made its debut at the 2016 Detroit Motor Show. It is the second car after the XC90 to sit on the Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform. It also shares most of the design cues with the SUV sibling, like the prominent ‘Thor hammer’ LED headlamps, and the slat grille with the logo in the middle.

On the inside, the flagship is laden with all the features you could ask for. So the sedan gets the Bowers and Wilkins infotainment system, Nappa leather upholstery, a nine-inch infotainment touchscreen in the middle which integrates all the car functions like navigation, drive modes, air-con and other accessories, climate control interface for rear passengers, cooled and heated front seats, walnut wood trim and an electric tailgate; to name a few. And being a Volvo, there is no questioning about the safety, as the car comes with a plethora of new and innovative safety features as standard like the airbags, pilot assist and lane keeping aid, park assist, hill-start assist, heads-up display, city safety and animal detection technology.

Volvo S90 will have a 2.0-litre D4 turbodiesel engine under the hood producing 187bhp of power and 400Nm of torque mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. And Volvo will make the S90 available only in a single top-of-the-line variant for the Indian market. The S90 will be imported as a completely built unit and is expected to be priced between Rs 50 lakh to Rs 65 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The sedan will join the Indian line-up which currently includes V40, V40 Cross Country, S60, S60 Cross Country, XC60 and the XC90.
