The next Toyota Supra to get rid of BMW ties? By 2027, a hybrid sports car is expected

According to reports, Toyota is developing the next-generation Supra with no involvement from BMW in order to launch it in 2027. It is anticipated that the brand-new model will have an in-house design, cutting-edge technology, and a hybrid powertrain.

The Supra’s next generation is reportedly being developed independently by Toyota, with a 2027 launch date anticipated. The current A90 model, which was co-developed with BMW and shares its platform and engine with the BMW Z4, would be markedly different from the sixth-generation Supra if it were produced.

After a 17-year hiatus, the current A90 Supra, which went on sale in 2019, is powered by a 3.0-liter inline-six engine from BMW. It has sold over 24,000 units worldwide. However, it is said that the next-generation model is entirely a Toyota project, from the platform and engine to the design and suspension.

Reports indicate that the new Supra could feature a 2.0-litre turbocharged hybrid powertrain delivering close to 400 bhp and 500 Nm of torque. A clutch and motor generator may also be part of the hybrid system, allowing for limited electric-only driving capabilities.

Additionally, it is believed that Toyota is evaluating the utilization of carbon-neutral fuels alongside conventional gasoline. A 10-speed or 8-speed automatic transmission are among the options under consideration, though final specifications have not been officially confirmed.
