2017 Volkswagen Passat diesel spotted in India sans camouflage

The 2017 Volkswagen Passat diesel has been spotted on test ahead of its expected debut. The German automaker is expected to introduced its premium sedan through the GTE hybrid variant before it brings in this diesel variant.

This new Passat (codenamed B8) was launched in 2015 and is the eighth generation for the car. This diesel version is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 148bhp/340Nm of torque with power going to the front wheels via a six-speed DSG. The GTE hybrid model is offered with an electric motor as well as 1.4-litre petrol engine that together produce 248bhp/400Nm. This combined package has been mated to a six-speed DSG. The design is typical VW with subtle exterior, projector headlamps and chrome outline for the glass area. Also included in the design is flared wheel arches, wrap around tail lamps and multi-spoke alloy wheels. The cabin is expected to include climate control, touchscreen infotainment system and leather upholstery.

The Passat will be the German automaker’s re-entry into the D+segment where it will take on the likes of the Skoda Superb, Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord. The hybrid variant which will be priced significantly higher will take on the likes of the Camry hybrid and the Accord hybrid.
