5 new cars to be launched in September 2016

The Festive season has kicked off with Lord Ganesha having arrived amidst happy showers of rain and flowers. These are the happy times when you want to go bring something new home. So if that might be on four wheels, here are five cars that are going to be launched this month.

New Jaguar XF
Ganesha drives a mouse but don’t worry, he won’t be afraid of a leaping cat in your garage. The new Jaguar XF is slated to be launched this month. Though it might look almost the same, there is a sea of changes under the skin and adds agility to the cat along with power and efficiency.

New Audi A4
If you thought it is only Jaguar who has an entirely new car that looks almost the same as its predecessor, you have the Audi A4 here. With renewed underpinnings and the reworked engines wth better power and emissions, the A4 is set to fight the other Germans.

Toyota Etios / Etios Liva
The Etios and Liva twins were developed especially by Toyota for emerging markets. Now focussed on safety, the new Etios twins will carry a brand new fascia, chiselled bumpers and swanky interior to take on the budget car segment in the Indian car market.

Hyundai i20 AT
The Hyundai i20 has been the bestselling premium hatchback for a long time. More space, futuristic looks and frugal engines coupled with lower maintenance cost have ensured the i20 remains a favourite. With automatic option added now, the i20 line-up will now be complete.

Nissan Terrano AMT
The Renault Duster twin is known for its excellent road manners and swankier interior. The Duster added all-wheel-drive to its repertoire and then AMT. Now it is the turn of the Nissan Terrano to get its special set of skill and the first one is AMT.

Toyota

Toyota’s Etios saloon and hatchback in Brazil is slated to get an automatic transmission. In addition to this update, both cars will also sport a slightly revised look and tweaked engines.

The automatic version of the Etios has been anticipated by the Brazilian market for some time now. Toyota has been contemplating this move since last year and the car maker is expected to reveal more news on this in the next few weeks. These revisions hope to freshen up the current generation of the Toyota Etios and ward off some competition from the Hyundai HB20 and the Chevrolet Onix, until the new generation gets introduced in the Brazilian market.

Toyota is expected to use the four-speed automatic gearbox from the earlier generation Brazilian Corolla, while Hyundai and Chevrolet offer six-speed gearboxes on their cars. The 1.3-litre and 1.5-litre engines will be in a different state of tune and will make more power with lesser emissions. Toyota is also likely to bring in visual updates to the fascia and lamps.

Toyota India has not revealed any information about an automatic version of the Indian Etios and Liva. However, considering the current manner in which automatics are garnering attention, we don’t think it is a bad idea either.

Jaguar

The Jaguar F-Pace was unveiled at the Auto Expo in Delhi earlier this year and is slated to launch in this calendar year. And now that the details of the features and specifications have gone live on the company website, we think the launch might be just around the corner.

The Jaguar F-Pace should be available in four trims – Pure, Prestige, R-Sport and the First Edition in increasing levels of trim. The basic differences would start right from engine options with the Pure and the Prestige getting the 2.0-litre Ingenium four cylinder diesel engines while the R-Sport and the First Edition will get the mightier 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 diesel mill. The 2.0-litre diesel produces 177bhp of power and 430Nm of torque and comes mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 3.0-litre mill churns out 296bhp of power and a whopping 700Nm of torque making it one of the most powerful diesel SUVs.

The F-Pace gets safety features like dual-front airbags, side airbags, emergency brake assist, cruise control, dynamic stability control and hill launch assist as standard. Dual-zone climate control, one-touch window operation, rain-sensing automatic wipers, automatic headlamps and electrically adjustable rear-view mirrors are also standard. The F-Pace Pure gets 18-inch alloy wheels and 10-way adjustable front seats along with the Jaguar surround sound music system. It gets push-button start with keyless entry and parking sensors both fore and aft. The touch-screen music system comes with Bluetooth connectivity and streaming. It gets ambient lighting, three power sockets and 40/20/40 split foldable rear seats. Along with the spec-list of the Pure, the Prestige gets white Taurus leather seats and chrome garnish for the windows. Bi-xenon headlamps with the signature J-shaped LED daytime running lights and fog lamps are standard on the F-Pace.

The R-Sport comes with 19-inch alloy wheels and the R-Sport body-kit with slightly more aggressive front and rear bumpers and body coloured side mouldings. The metal tread-plates get the R-Sport lettering instead of Jaguar. The standard seats are replaced by bucket seats and are upholstered in dual-tone leather. The tailgate can now be closed with a gesture and gets body coloured wing mirrors. It gets additional power sockets and an electrically adjustable steering column along with electrically reclining rear seats. The analog instrument cluster is replaced by a TFT display for the virtual instrument console. Reverse parking is now guided by a surround camera.

The First Edition is the top-spec F-Pace. It gets a panoramic sunroof, 20-inch alloy wheels, an S body kit and the sporty leather seats as in the R-Sport. The ambient lighting the cabin is adjustable and it gets a Meridian sound system.it gets dual exhaust pipes like the R-Sport with larger tips and the brake calipers are painted red for a sportier image.

The Jaguar F-Pace will be a Porsche Macan, Cayenne and the Mercedes-Benz GLE coupe competition SUV and is expected to launch soon. If you want to know how it is to drive, read our First Drive review here.

Jaguar

The Jaguar F-Type is one of the most beautiful machines to have graced the roads in recent times. The Special Vehicle Operations division of the British car maker decided to give a touch of madness to the sports coupe. The Jaguar F-Type SVR was revealed internationally at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year and it is expected to reach the Indian shores by the end of this year.

The F-Type SVR is powered by the same 5.0-litre supercharged V8 from the F-Type R. The old-school V8 has been tuned up and now delivers a whopping 567bhp of power instead of the 543 in the F-Type R. With the torque up to 700Nm and with power delivered through all four wheels, the SVR hits 100kmph from stand still in just 3.5 seconds. The F-Type SVR goes on to hit a top whack of 200mph (320+ kmph).

Apart from the upgraded engine, it gets a reworked front bumper and splitter, flat underbelly, and a carbon fibre active rear wing for improved aerodynamics. The exhaust is made of titanium alloy and sounds madder than ever before. The suspension has been tweaked and strengthened, the alloy wheels have shed weight while the tyres have grown wider to cope with the added power and speed. The all-wheel-drive system gets torque vectoring with stability control. The eight speed gearbox has also been tweaked.

Jaguar Land Rover India have said that they will get the SVR to India soon. But that may not probably be the first of the F-Types with AWD to hit the Indian shores. If you are in India and want to buy an F-Type AWD, you can order one at the Jaguar dealership and it should be at your doorstep in four months.

Jaguar

After teasing it through a single image showing the car’s taillight, Jaguar has officially revealed the XFL at the ongoing Beijing Motor Show. This new model is the long-wheelbase version of the regular car that is sold globally.

The XFL has been designed only for China. It is 140mm longer than the regular XF and comes with lots of tech to keep the rear occupants both comfortable and occupied. Jaguar is offering its latest InControl Touch Pro infotainment system, two 8-inch screens and wireless headphones for rear seat entertainment. Adding more comfort to the rear are the heated and cooled seats with massage function and window blinds.

The added length has resulted in the XFL weighing around 200kg more than the regular model. That said, performance will be more than enough from the choice of petrol engines that Jaguar is offering for this car. There’s a 2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine in two different state of tunes – 197bhp and 236bhp, or a 335bhp supercharged 3-litre V6 unit. All engine options use a ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox.

The XFL will be the third locally assembled JLR model in China, after the Range Rover Evoque and the Land Rover Discovery Sport. The former is underpinned by the same aluminium-intensive platform found in the F-Pace and the XE.
