JSW Motors is set to enter India’s passenger vehicle market with its first model, and we can exclusively report that the upcoming SUV will be called Combat. Based on the Chery Jetour T2, the new plug-in hybrid SUV is expected to arrive in India around the festive season.

JSW Combat: Expected Price and Rivals
JSW Motors is reportedly targeting an aggressive Rs 30 lakh-50 lakh (ex-showroom) price bracket for the Combat. If priced within this range, it could become one of the few plug-in hybrid SUVs positioned at this price point, with the Honda ZR-V serving as one of its closest alternatives.
The Combat’s rugged, upright design could also help it appeal to buyers considering established SUVs such as the Toyota Fortuner. Unlike the Fortuner, however, the JSW SUV will combine its off-road-inspiredVisually, the Combat is styling with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
JSW Combat Exterior and Interior Design
Visually, the Combat is expected to stay close to the Jetour T2, with JSW likely making subtle revisions to the headlamps, grille and bumpers, along with its own branding.
The SUV’s design features a boxy silhouette, squared-off LED headlamps, chunky bumpers and extensive body cladding. Other highlights include 20-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, vertically stacked LED tail-lamps and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel housed in a squircle-shaped cover.
Inside, the Combat is expected to feature a modern, minimalist cabin dominated by a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10.6-inch digital instrument cluster. The four-spoke steering wheel will also carry JSW branding.
The global-spec Jetour T2 comes loaded with features such as a 12-speaker audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, panoramic sunroof, 540-degree camera system, powered and ventilated front seats, ambient lighting and adaptive cruise control. The India-spec Combat is expected to offer a broadly similar equipment list.
JSW Combat Powertrain and Range
The biggest talking point will be the Combat’s plug-in hybrid powertrain. It is expected to use a 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine paired with two electric motors and an 18.4kWh battery pack.
In the global-spec Jetour T2, this setup produces a combined 360hp and 610Nm. Power is sent to the front wheels through a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. Although the T2 is offered with both front- and all-wheel drive in international markets, the Combat is expected to be offered exclusively with front-wheel drive in India.
The T2’s 18.4kWh battery delivers a claimed 90km of electric-only range under the NEDC cycle. Using a 6.6kW AC charger, the battery can reportedly be charged from 30 to 100 percent in around three hours, while a 50kW DC charger can take it from 30 to 80 percent in approximately 27 minutes.
The global-spec model has a claimed combined driving range of around 1,200km, and the Combat is expected to retain broadly similar powertrain specifications for the Indian market.
With its plug-in hybrid technology, rugged styling and aggressive expected pricing, the JSW Combat could carve out a distinctive position in India’s premium SUV segment when it arrives later this year.
