Sports cars are crown jewels of any automaker’s lineup. Fast, head-turning, expensive – owning one is the dream of any car enthusiast. In the automotive world, sports cars seem to play in their own league. They are not affected by trends or regulations as much as the more mundane car models. Perhaps, this is why the fundamental sports car recipe has remained unchanged ever since its inception. Neither has the main ingredient – the driver’s excitement. Even the most down-to-earth car experience – such as driving to the store to pick up some milk – is supposed to be special and memorable in a sports car.
This, of course, begs the question – how does one put a price on excitement and emotions? Sports car manufacturers have figured out the answer – by putting six-figure price tags on their cars. However, true car enthusiasts know that the amazing experience that a proper sports car brings is priceless, no matter the cost.
In this list, we’ve compiled a few upcoming 2020 sports cars that will be worth every dollar. Some of them are quite affordable, and some are only attainable by a lucky few. However, one thing that unites them all – they will surely bring that amazing priceless experience.

15Mazda MX-5 Miata
Yes, we’re starting with the Miata – because Miata is always the answer. The famed Japanese roadster is now in its fourth generation 30 years after the initial release – and it’s still as great as it was back then.
It might not pack a ton of power underneath the hood, but with its balanced handling, convertible soft-top and the base price of only $26,580 it’s still one of the best sports cars for your dollar.
14Porsche 718 Cayman GTS
In a recent article, Motor 1 called the 718 Cayman GTS the “best new Porsche money can buy” – and for good reasons. The GTS is equipped with Porsche’s amazing 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated flat-6 engine that only comes with a sweet six-speed manual.
The starting price is expected to be around $85,000. For this money, the 718 Cayman might just be a better deal than the 911.
13Lexus LC 500
While the LC500h hybrid is more of a grand tourer, the naturally-aspirated LC 500 is closer to a true sports car. A 5.0-liter V8 with 471 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque, rear-wheel drive, and drop-dead gorgeous styling – what’s not to love?
Pricing is also one of LC’s strengths – with the base price of $92,950, it gives most other sports cars and grand tourers a run for their money. Plus, it’s a Lexus so it’s probably going to last forever.
12Chevrolet Corvette C8
The eighth-generation ‘Vette coming in 2020 is the most radical yet. It’s the first mid-engined Corvette, which makes it a serious performer on the racetrack. Two things that haven’t changed are the engine and the price.
Corvette still offers the same 6.2-liter small-block V8 with 490 hp that will catapult you from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds! The best part? It can do it for as little as $63,900!
11Tesla Roadster
When talking about radical upcoming sports cars, it’s impossible not to mention the Tesla Roadster. The first generation of the Roadster was Tesla’s first production car. The second generation will be their most daring: 0 to 60 in 1.9 seconds, a top speed of over 250 mph, and 620 miles of range.
Will it be worth the $200,000 price tag, however? We think so, as Tesla has a good record of creating boundary-pushing vehicles.
10Porsche 911 (992)
There are sports cars, and there is the Porsche 911. The legend returns more refined than ever in its 8th generation. There isn’t even any need to describe the newest model in detail.
It’s the 911, the benchmark for all sports cars, the status symbol, the ultimate driver’s car! With the $97,400 base price, it’s not cheap – but has it ever been?
9Ferrari Roma
We wouldn’t normally put “Ferrari” and “worth every dollar” together in a sentence. Yes, they’ve always made amazing, but unpractical and, one could argue, overpriced sports cars.
With the Roma, however, Maranello took a different approach and got inspired by its famous grand tourers of the 1950s and 60s. It’s gorgeous but in a simple and elegant way. With the 2+2 seating and front-engined layout, it’s also more practical. And for the projected $220,000, it might even be a good deal – if you’re in the market, of course.
8Mercedes-AMG GT 63S 4-Door
The Mercedes-AMG GT 63S might be a 4-door hatchback, but it’s still a sports car in every sense of the word. It’s equipped with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that puts out 630 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. This means a 0-60 time of 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 195 mph.
All while carrying 3 passengers and a decent amount of cargo. We believe that $159,000 is a reasonable sum to pay for a car that can simply do it all.
7Ford Mustang Shelby GT500
The Shelby GT500 is yet another legendary sports car model on the list. The past generations of the GT500 were not radically different from regular Mustangs – save for a bigger engine and faster acceleration in a straight line. The all-new GT500 is way different.
Not only does it pack a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 that puts out a whopping 760 horsepower, but it can also easily take on the best exotic sports cars out there, Motor1 writes. More impressively, it starts at only $70,300 – and it’s hard to find a sports car with more power for this kind of money.
6Jaguar F-Type
Jaguar has always made imperfect, but extremely charismatic cars. The new F-Type is no exception. Sure, it’s not as refined or as fast as, say, the Porsche 911. It’s also more expensive and unreliable than the upcoming Corvette C8. But damn, it looks amazing. And you can get it with a roaring 5.0-liter 575 hp supercharged V8.
As far as we are concerned, however, even the base 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder model is worthy! With the base price of $61,600, the F-Type is a unique sports car that will stand out.
5BMW M2 CS
The M2 CS is yet another controversial take on this list. While the regular M2 was one of the best sports cars for the money when it first came out, the latest CS version seems a bit overpriced. At $85,000 it’s pretty expensive for what it is.
However, consider the collectability of it! It’s a limited edition car that might just be one of the best BMW M sports cars in recent years. If you are lucky enough to pick one up, you definitely won’t have to worry about depreciation.
4Acura NSX
When the second-gen NSX was released, it was a bit of a disappointment to the fans and the critics. Acura made sure to address their concerns, and the 2020 model is coming with various chassis improvements, software upgrades, and powertrain tweaks, as per Driving. With the improvements in mind, the $157,500 MSRP doesn’t seem so crazy anymore.
3Audi RS6 Avant
After years of absence, the RS6 Avant is finally available in North America. And you have to really love quirky cars to get one because the RS6 Avant is quite insane! Essentially, it’s a station wagon that you can take to the race track.
Maybe you shouldn’t, but with a 591 horsepower twin-turbo V8 and a 0 to 60 time of 3.6 seconds, it will be hard to resist. The RS6 Avant is a unique car that justifies its $108,000 starting price.
2Maserati Alfieri (?)
The long-awaited replacement for Maserati’s aging GranTurismo coupe is yet to be released. What we know so far is that it will likely be called Alfieri – after the company’s founder – and will look somewhat like the concept car above, according to Motor 1.
The model will be a huge step forward for the struggling Maserati, and simply because of that we believe that it will be worth every penny.
1Rimac C_Two
What would you get if you took the upcoming Tesla Roadster and pushed it to the limits of car manufacturing? The answer is Rimac C_Two. The Croatian-built electric supercar is simply of the most impressive vehicles on the market today.
Let’s talk numbers: 1,914 horsepower, 1696 lb-ft of torque, 6 to 60 in 1.85 seconds, according to CarBuzz. Add the AI-enabled tech and autonomous driving, and you might just have the craziest car ever. Sure, it costs $2,000,000 and all the planned production units have already been sold. But is 2 million dollars such a high price for the future of automobiles?
