Car Sales August 2026: Mahindra, Hyundai and MG Report Strong Growth

India’s automobile market continued to show resilience in August 2026, with several major carmakers reporting healthy year-on-year sales growth. This comes despite ongoing geopolitical tensions, supply-chain challenges and uncertainty in global markets.

The strong performance of the auto industry comes alongside India’s impressive 7.8 per cent GDP growth in the first quarter of FY2027, highlighting continued momentum in domestic demand.

Here’s a look at how Mahindra, Hyundai and JSW MG Motor India performed in August 2026.

Mahindra SUV Sales August 2026

Mahindra & Mahindra continued its strong run in the SUV segment during August 2026. The automaker sold 59,257 SUVs in the domestic market, compared with 39,399 units in August 2025.

This translates to a massive 50 per cent year-on-year growth. However, compared with July 2026, domestic SUV sales declined marginally by 1.32 per cent.

Mahindra’s cumulative domestic passenger vehicle sales for the April-August period stood at 2,94,050 units, up from 2,41,337 units during the same period last year. The company therefore recorded a 22 per cent YoY increase in its year-to-date SUV sales.

The company also witnessed strong growth in its export business. Mahindra exported 6,054 vehicles in August 2026, including SUVs, LCVs, three-wheelers and other models. This was significantly higher than the 3,548 units exported in August 2025, representing a 71 per cent YoY increase.

Hyundai Sales August 2026

Hyundai Motor India recorded 65,796 units in total sales, including domestic sales and exports, in August 2026. The figure represents an 8.8 per cent year-on-year increase.

Hyundai’s total sales consisted of 54,396 units in the domestic market and 11,400 units exported overseas.

Domestic sales were particularly impressive, growing 23.6 per cent YoY. Hyundai said its August domestic sales were the highest ever recorded for the month of August.

Commenting on the performance, Tarun Garg, MD & CEO of Hyundai Motor India, said the company continues to maintain strong momentum in FY2027. Domestic sales during the April-August period grew 12.6 per cent YoY.

However, Hyundai’s exports faced some pressure during the month because of logistical challenges linked to the ongoing conflict in West Asia and the wider geopolitical situation.

Despite these headwinds, Hyundai remains optimistic about export demand improving as geopolitical conditions stabilise.

JSW MG Motor India Sales August 2026

JSW MG Motor India also reported positive sales momentum in August 2026.

The automaker recorded 7,508 wholesale units, marking a 14 per cent year-on-year growth. According to the company, demand remained healthy across both its internal combustion engine (ICE) and new energy vehicle (NEV) line-ups.

The company has also expanded its portfolio with the recently introduced MG Hector Tomahawk, its first SUV based on the new ADAPT multi-new-energy-vehicle platform.

The Hector Tomahawk is offered in electric vehicle (EV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) versions. Deliveries of the Tomahawk EV are scheduled to begin in September, while test drives and deliveries of the PHEV variant are expected to commence in November 2026.
