Audi Q2 expected to attract buyers looking to downsize

Audi’s Q2, with a starting price tag of 22,900 Euros (Rs 17.20 lakh), is being targeted at customers with larger Merc and BMW cars, who are looking to downsize their vehicles.

Audi is also confident that their smallest and cheapest SUV can compete with the likes of the luxury compact vehicles such as the BMW 1 Series hatchback or Mercedes’ GLA. With the combination of agile handling, compact dimensions, and superior infotainment options, Audi claims this SUV will attract buyers seeking a compact SUV for convenience reasons, without giving up on the comfort factor.

Sources at Audi revealed that the Q2 will not compete with the Mini Countryman as those buyers are too brand loyal to look out for alternatives with more space and practicality. While the Q2 will roll off their production floor at Ingolstadt in Germany, Audi will launch the car for Europe and China in November this year.

As bookings have already begun for the standard Q2, and the Q2 Edition #1, Audi hopes to rope in customers using features such as Audi Virtual Cockpit instrument cluster (12.3-inch screen and head-up display) and wireless charging, as bait.

For the international market, six engine options will be on offer and power will range from 116bhp to 190bhp. The petrol range consists of a 1.0 TFSI three-cylinder petrol motor, a 1.4 TFSI and a 2.0 TFSI. For those who prefer diesel, there is a 1.6 TDI, and a 2.0 TDI (in two states of tune).

Audi’s Q2 SUV could make it to Indian shores in the first half of 2017.
