In a shocking revelation, over 3,000 students studying under the University of Mumbai might not be granted a degree since the enrollment process in their respective colleges across the city remains hitherto incomplete.

According to the recent notification circulated by the enrollment, eligibility, and migration department of the university, several colleges across the city haven’t completed the enrollment process of its students from 2012 till 2015.

The university registrar, M A Khan pointed out that the students would have to wait till the process was completed before obtaining a migration certificate.

The university pointed out that over 3,000 students have not submitted their documents to the university so far.

No degree to be granted if colleges fail to comply

The university has warned the colleges that they would withhold degrees if the colleges fail to complete their enrollment and eligibility process within a predetermined time frame.

“The colleges are supposed to check the eligibility of the students when they are admitted. This involved checking the documents submitted by the students,” said the registrar, adding, “Many colleges had defaulted on the same, risking the future of many students.”

Most of such cases are recorded in commerce colleges where the enrollment figure was much higher.

No roll number to be issued

Failure to submit required documents to the university will cost students their academic year as no roll number would be issued by the university to these students.

The university has granted a provisional hall ticket to such students in the past as well following the same reason.

“However, the results of these students cannot be declared until their enrolment process is completed. There have been instances where the university only finds out about the delay in the third year of a student’s course. This holds up the final result of the student and the migration certificate required for higher studies is not issued,” added Khan, as reported by The Indian Express.

The university has released the lists of students whose documents have not been approved.

“If the college fails to furnish the documents within the set time, the student may not be granted a degree and the principal of the college will be held responsible,” read the circular.
