At the 11th meeting of the inter-state council, Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel appealed for the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) to be held in regional languages. The meeting was held on Saturday, July 16, where the Gujarat government asked for regional languages to be considered for entrances to benefit students.
This is not the first time that a state has asked for regional language consideration for entrance exam. NEET is the centralised exam that will be taken by students aspiring to pursue MBBS or BDS.
Other important discussions at the meeting:
- Patel also talked about the significance of coal policing in Gujarat
- The reason for the same was Gujarat’s proximity to Pakistan
- Patel also urged the central government to consider request for financial assistance to set up forensic laboratory
- She also asked the centre to take necessary actions to achieve the goal of cooperative federalism
- Patel stated that she was in absolute agreement with recommendations made by Justice MM Punchhi Commission
Use of Adhaar Card:
- Gujarat has already enrolled 91.25 per cent adult population under the Adhaar card scheme
- About 560 permanent enrolment centres have been set up for covering the remaining population
- “We have also constituted a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) Cell in the Finance Department to oversee both Aadhaar seeding and also the flow of financial benefits to the beneficiaries’ accounts through DBT,” said Anandiben Patel at the meeting.
