Tata Motors passenger vehicle prices hiked by up to Rs 12,000Tata Motors is the latest one to hike the prices across its range in the country. Potential customers will now have to pay an additional price ranging between Rs 5,000 to Rs 12,000 depending on the model. Mayank Parekh, President, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit added that the prices of raw materials such as zinc and steel have also gone up thereby prompting the company to increase its vehicle prices.

Tata Nano, the entry-level car, now starts at Rs 2.15 lakh, while the top-of-the-range Aria now starts at Rs 16.3 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi). The hike in prices also covers the recently launched Tiago hatchback and this will indeed be its second hike (last hike of Rs 6,000 in August) since its launch in the country. With the fresh hike in prices, the Tiago petrol now starts at Rs 3.72 lakh, while the diesel trim starts at Rs 4.81 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi).

Other leading automakers in the country like Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai have hiked prices by up to Rs 20,000, while Tata Motors has been the latest one to increase the prices. The country’s leading utility vehicle manufacturer Mahindra and Mahindra has hiked the commercial vehicle prices by about 1 per cent from this month onwards. The upcoming Hexa SUV from Tata Motors will replace the Aria crossover in January 2017. Post launch, it will compete against the likes of the XUV500 and Renault Duster in the country
