Several fire crews are at the scene to try and recover the vehicle

Stunned commuters look on as the vehicle made its way underground and on the platform.

Several fire crews are at the scene to try and recover the vehicle, with almost 20 vehicles surrounding the station.

Firefighter Michael Pawellek confirmed the scene of the accident remains blocked, with the clear-up expected to take up to 24 hours.

The collision comes as Berlin hosts the Kirchentag fetsival amid heightened security fears across Europe following the Manchester suicide bombing on Monday.

Twenty-two people were killed were ISIS fanatic Salman Abedi detonated a suicide vest as fans left an Arian Grande concert at the Manchester Arena.

Now many countries have stepped up levels of policing for fear of another attack.

Berlin is expected to see an extra 150,000 people visit the city this weekend for the congress.
