Technology is ever evolving and car makers are usually in the race for firsts that can give them bragging rights. Like Volvo made seatbelts and Mercedes-S-Class got electronic ABS, Ford will probably be the first to offer heated seat belts in production cars.
Ford has filed a patent for their newest invention that basically embeds a heating element in the fabric and gets electricity supply when it is buckled in. Ford has devised multiple iterations of the design, all of which basically provide a similar outcome. The seat-belt wearer might get temperature control in some cases but will certainly have an on-off switch to turn the heating off in summer.
In especially cold areas like North America, Canada, Europe and Russia, where even a little heat from anywhere feels welcome, the heated seatbelts might become a USP for Ford cars. Ford has already decided to shift its product portfolio largely to SUVs – cars that are quite popular in extreme weather conditions
