2017 Hyundai Verna will enter the Indian market once again on August 22, with pre-bookings now underway at all Hyundai India dealerships. First launched in 2011, the new Hyundai Verna faces stiff competition from Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City and Volkswagen Jetta. The Japanese car-makers are pinning their hopes on the New Hyundai Verna to do well and are aiming to sell close to 10,000 units by Diwali. The new Hyundai Verna will get an image makeover along with tuned up engine for better performance. Y.K. Koo, Managing Director, Hyundai India said, “We are targeting to sell around 4,500 units per month in the domestic market. We are confident of achieving the target and aim to deliver 10,000 units to customers before Diwali.”

Hyundai recently showcased its new and high strength Verna developed at an outlay of Rs 1,040 crore. Koo said the next generation Verna has super body structure built out of 50 per cent advanced high strength steel (AHSS). The new Hyundai Verna will come in both petrol and diesel versions. The company also offers manual and automatic transmission options.

The 2017 Verna is built on the all new K2 platform thus enabling precise tuning of key suspension components for enhanced cornering and high speed stability, superior ride comfort and precise handling performance. The rear suspension geometry has been modified for stable and comfortable ride for rear passengers by vertical angle of rear shock absorbers and coil springs on the coupled torsion beam axle.

The front suspension uses an optimally designed McPherson strut with coil springs and gas shock absorbers along with a front stabilizer to help reduce the body roll when cornering. The standard Motor-Driven Power Steering System (MDPS) has been tuned to provide superior feedback while cornering and at high speeds thus delivering precise handling response. The front wheel caster angle has been modified to further enhance the steering feedback to the driver at Highway speeds.

Inside the 2017 Verna, you will find a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that has Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, new cooled/ventilated seats- a segment first, automatic climate control, start-stop system, navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, rear parking sensors with reverse camera.

For safety, Hyundai has packed the Verna with two airbags for the lower variants, while the top-end variant will get more than two airbags. Along with this, it also gets ABS with EBD and ESC as optional.

The 2017 Verna is equipped with two engines choices- a 1.6-litre Dual VTVT petrol and 1.6-litre U2 CRDi VGT diesel engine. While the 1.6-litre petrol churns out 121 bhp of power and 130 Nm of peak torque, while the 1.6 diesel engine produces 126 bhp and peak torque of 245 Nm. Transmission duties are done by 6-Speed Manual and a 6-Speed AMT.

We expect the prices of the 2017 Verna to range from ₹ 8 lakh for the base model to around ₹ 13 lakh for the top-end variant.
