Auto Industry Registers Positive Growth In April-January 2018

According to the data released by Society Of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the Indian automotive industry produced a total of 23,890,166 vehicles including the passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three-wheeler, two-wheeler in April-January 2018 as against 21,104,750 in April-January 2016, registering a growth of 13.20 percent over the same period last year. The domestic sale of passenger vehicles grew by 8.07 per cent in April-January 2018 over the same period last year.

Within the passenger vehicles; passenger cars, utility vehicles and vans grew by 3.61 per cent, 21.29 per cent and 5.33 per cent respectively in April-January 2018 over the same period last year.

The overall commercial vehicles segment grew by 17.88 per cent in April-January 2018 as compared to the same period last year. Medium and heavy commercial vehicles grew by 10.45 per cent and LCVs grew by 23.17 per cent in April-January 2018 over the same period last year.

The three-wheeler sales grew by 14.46 per cent in April-January 2018 over the same period last year. Within this, the passenger Carrier and Goods Carrier sales registerd a growth of 16.38 per cent and 6.86 per cent respectively in April-January 2018 over April-January 2017.

The two-wheeler sales registered a growth of 13.62 per cent in April-January 2018 over April-January 2017. In this, the scooter and motorcycles grew by 20.91 per cent and 11.43 percent respectively, while mopeds declined by 4.64 per cent in April-January 2018 over April-January 2017.

The exports in April-January 2018 saw an overall increase by 14.80 per cent. Two and three-wheeler segments registered a growth of 19.32 per cent and 33.58 per cent respectively, while PVs and CVs declined by 1.87 per cent and 15.28 per cent respectively in April-January 2018 over the same period last year.
