Sports cars as according to the Manila Sports Car Club

Sports cars as according to the Manila Sports Car Club image

If you want to join one of Manila’s oldest and finest automotive groups, the Manila Sports Car Club (MSCC), you would need to have a proper sports car that fits the bill. No, the layman’s definition of a ‘sports car’ won’t work and will not get you into the exclusive club. For the MSCC, they have their own definition for what a sports car is and only a select few cars are eligible. In fact, what most of us might consider sports cars may not be to them.

In order to make things easier to understand, the MSCC has a list of vehicles which they deem to be sports car in order to be eligible to join the club. Recently, the list has been updated to add more cars into the mix including newer and some older models.

So what does MSCC classify as a sports car? To begin with, it must strictly be a two-seater model. While there are some 2+2s in the list, they are often exceptions. More interestingly, the question of whether a fully grown adult can sit in the back of the 2+2 or not for a drive from Manila to Subic is also way of seeing whether or not the vehicle in question is considered a sports car. The club does not seem to discriminate whether the car is rear-wheel drive or front-wheel drive as long as it has ‘sporting character’. You may check the full details on what MSCC considers a sports car here.

As of February 14, 2019, there are over a hundred cars that are currently included in the list from classic European models to more modern Japanese units. Some notable cars that most people see today as sports cars that are not included in the list include the Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro. You may check out the full list of sports cars below.

If the car isn’t on the list, one can ask the MSCC board for a decision.
