Faraday Future has been putting its shoulder to the wheels for the last 12 months and has finally taken the wraps of its new electric autonomous SUV. Christened as FF91, the California-based electric car manufacturer is calling the car a ‘new species’ and has dubbed it a spectacle of technology.
The FF91 claims to have the largest battery size with the densest battery pack in the EV world. These 130 kilowatt-hours cylindrical lithium-ion cells are sourced from LG Chem and are packed under the floor. The power output is equivalent to a whopping 1050bhp and torque is rated at 1800Nm. This has given the car a 0-100kmph time of 2.39seconds making the FF91 the fastest accelerating EV till date. Yet the FF91 claims an impressive range of 608kilometres.
The FF91 is based on a newly developed Variable Platform Architecture (VPA) and measures in at 5.2-metres and has a wheelbase of 3.2-metres. The aerodynamic body as a drag coefficient of just 0.25. The car rides on distinctively dynamic 22-inch wheels. The FF91 has an automatic ride height adjustable suspension with a four-wheel steering system.
Moving on to the inside, the FF91 has a reclining rear seat with up to 60degree tilt. The panoramic sunroof and windows are made of PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) glass which can be turned dark with a simple tap. It also has a facial recognition for the driver to enter with its unique FF-ID, which forms a basis for its connected “ecosystem”.
The FF91 is a proper autonomous vehicle with 13 long and short range radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, 10 cameras and a retractable 3D LiDar sensor on the bonnet. These are all connected to a powerful computer to give the FF91 the autonomous credentials. It has a valet park function as standard.
The FF91 is expected to go into production in 2018. The first 300 units can be upgraded to Alliance Edition a part of its sales will proceed as a donation to an environment protection fund which will be named at a later date. Faraday Future are still
