The Oklahoma City International Auto Show always tries to give visitors something special. This year it will be the first time an auto show has produced and exhibited a full-size concept car model.
“Having an opportunity to be the first auto show in the nation to produce something of this caliber is a big thrill for us,” said Metropolitan Auto Dealers Association Chairman Laine Diffee. “For it to be a full-size concept car model that has never been in public prior to this week just makes it even more impressive.”
The concept car – made of high-density foam, polyurea coating and auto body paint – will be on display March 8-10 at the Bennett Event Center at the Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City. The show is open on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The concept car design began as part of a contest announced last year. It was designed by independent artist Kip Kubisz.
It’s an ultralight vehicle design that Kubisz imagines to use aerodynamics and an electromagnetic power train and suspension. The design is intended to be powered by electricity through a bank of magnets in the inner wheel well and on the rim. The car is also designed for air to flow through the body and channel to the back end, providing downforce while also decreasing drag.
“I have incorporated many of today’s technologies, mixed with some conceptual ideas to create my idea of a future racing platform,” Kubisz said. “I’m excited to be a part of the OKC Auto Show to see what the public thinks about this unique design.”
The car will be carried on a tour through Oklahoma City the day before the OKC Auto Show and will then be on display throughout the event. The concept car will then be displayed at auto shows throughout the country, including the Tulsa Auto Show and others to be announced.
“We are really impressed with the design and just as excited to be able to be the first auto show to ever produce a full-size concept car model,” said Peter Hodges, president of the Metropolitan Auto Dealers Association. “We anticipate a lot of people wanting to come out and be among the first to see this new design.”
The OKC Auto Show is one of the largest consumer shows in Oklahoma and will feature a variety of entertaining activities for adults and kids of all ages.
In addition to the concept car, the 102nd anniversary event will include a re-creation of the 1960’s OKC Auto Shows exhibit with over 50 automobiles from the ’60s era. Also on display will be exotic cars and 10 rare automobiles from the early 1900’s along with 2019 new cars and trucks and some 2020 models from 24 automobile brands. The event offers an opportunity to test drive 24 cars and trucks from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Toyota and Chevrolet.
Attendees can participate in the 18-Hole Mini-Golf Course Experience with proceeds benefiting the Thunderbird Clubhouse, a Norman community of individuals in recovery from mental illness.
The show is also giving away free gas for one year with partner 7-Eleven.
The Metropolitan Auto Dealers Association was formed on May 4, 1916, as the Oklahoma City Motor Car Dealers’ Association, and the first OKC Auto Show was held January 23-26, 1917.
This year’s Oklahoma City Auto Show will once again take place in the state of-the-art Bennett Event Center at State Fair Park. Attendees will have the experience of enjoying the show under one roof with immediate access to all of the exhibits and events.
Event and ticket information are available on the Oklahoma City Auto Showwebsite. Attendees may also purchase E-tickets online. Buy one get one free coupons are available at 7-Eleven stores and Solid Rock Basketball.
